Art Therapy: Healing Through Creativity
This 4-week Art Therapy workshop focuses on integrating Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based practices with art making. You will learn how to use art-making to de-stress, build self-awareness, and manage your emotions. All creative expression allows you to imagine new ways to communicate with the self and others, and engage with life in a more meaningful way.
No previous experience with art-making or CBT is required. This workshop is run by Gunreet Kaur Gill, a student art therapist with the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute.
WEEK ONE Mindfulness and meditation practices with art: ‘Flow states’ and stress reduction
WEEK TWO Emotional identification and regulation: Learning to work with emotions, instead of against them.
WEEK THREE Self- soothing and grounding techniques: The energetic body and art making
WEEK FOUR: Creativity and Building resilience: Building a ‘SUSTAINABLE’ creative self
Materials: Sketchbook or sketchpad, size of choice.
Your choice of art medium: crayons, pencil crayons, markers, paint, fabric, beads, found objects, natural objects. Please have something to draw and paint with.
– WEEK TWO REQUIRED: A small shoebox, jar, or other container.
– WEEK THREE REQUIRED: 2-3 sheets of bristol board from the dollar store.
